Okay, WTF? This is the second day in a row I've taken a nap. Ugh. I really hope I'm not coming down with something. I got another awesome Christmas present yesterday- geekbynight made me icons! And not just any icons. Some, like the one I'm using here, are of chocolate. Given how often I talk about baking, these are essential :) The others are from family pictures. I have a new default icon- the one of me on the battleship was taken like, six years ago or something. Before I was even pregnant with Toby, anyway. Plus, she made me several with the boys in them. You will be seeing them all soon! I am profoundly grateful, because I just never seem to be able to do icons well. My colors don't pop like hers (although a couple that I fell in love with are black and white), and I'm not nearly so good at effective cropping. I'm actually debating a new project. It is a TOTAL rip off, but I might do it anyway. We'll see. I'd like to attempt to give my LJ a little more direction. I haven't written much HP in years, and while I still like writing BSG, I do wonder if I'll do another epic or not. I don't know. On the one hand, I have a few ideas, and on the other, I got a plot for an original story, and I'd like to go there. But I think I might like to write about cooking. I just ordered two cookbooks from Amazon- the Bon Appetit cookbook and the BA Fast, Fresh, and Easy cookbook. I might start writing more about the recipes and all that. I don't expect it to be anything like Julie of Julie and Julia's blog, or get that kind of attention, but I think it would be fun to talk a little bit more about something concrete. Frankly, my personal life tends to make for boring reading. (I'm happy. Let's face it- happy is good, but yeah, boring reading! :) ) If I do this, I will be keeping it in this LJ, and just tagging my entries. I'm already good about cutting (I think), so it will just mean that you'll be seeing more cooking entries from me. I'm thinking it would be fun. Thoughts? (Amusingly, I have yet to see Julie and Julia. My husband has NO interest in it, I think. But I got it for Christmas, and I'm going to find time in the next few days to watch it.) The other thing I'm starting to think about (and rose_griffes, I'll be sending you a PM today or tomorrow!) is doing the bsg remix again. That was a great challenge, and I really enjoyed running it. I have a few ideas for a few minor changes in the application. ( read about them here! )Phew. Okay, that was fun. In-laws are here, so I guess I'd better wrap my rambling up. We are SO ordering pizza tonight. Yay!! ETA: Oh, right! Been reading yuletide. Any guesses on my fic? :) I've yet to see it recced, but I was expecting that, just because of the fandom. I'll give five hints, and anyone who guesses, I'll write you a drabble-ficlet. 1.) It hasn't been recced yet, and I think it has a lot to do with the fandom. 2.) I've mentioned it here. 3.) The source material shaped a lot of my beliefs. 4.) I REFUSE to write a sex scene for the fandom because of how the original author handles them. 5.) It easily could have continued. And, here are my recs so far: ( Sesame Street, Ballet Shoes, Disney Princesses, Atlantis, The Outsiders, Futurama, and Gone with the Wind ) Current Mood: blah |

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!!!! A quick update before I get the kiddies up. Merry Christmas, and I hope you all have a wonderful day. I assume you all saw the special snowflake wank? The one about the snowflake cookies? I read it, I laughed, and then I had what I think is a supremely reasonable reaction: Mmmm. Snowflake cookies. I REALLY want snowflake cookies. So, I did the best thing possible: I made them! But to exceed that awesomeness, yuletide is open!!!!! And the story I got??? It's gonna be one of those recced far and wide, and everyone should read it. Because DUDE- I GOT LORAX FIC!!!!!!!!! The Thneedlery. It's a continuation/sequel of The Lorax, and it is FANTASTIC. It's rated G, it's gen, it's a poem, and it's seriously so amazingly awesome that I want to illustrate it and read it to my kids. (And I'm serious about that last part.) I mean, it is THAT AWESOME and the author did SUCH an amazing job and since everyone knows The Lorax, seriously- this is gonna be One of Those Fics That EVERYONE Recs, and With Good Reason. I got chills at the end- serious chills. (Also? All of you who hated "Lee Adama's Giant Slingshot Into the Sun" (thank you, millari, I think it was- millari or kappmaki33, anyway), you will LOVE the end message here.) My yuletide author ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay. I hear noises from upstairs. I think it's time for some little boys to start Christmas morning!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!! |

The night before Christmas Eve. I had a good workout and then a glass of wine, which always makes me feel... good. Not good enough to be drunk though, which is actually good since I have a TON of stuff to do tomorrow. I posted three timestamp ficlets last night- one from "A Touch of Your Grace", one from "The Space Between Us", and one from "Let the Water Hold You Down." I'm so out of writing HP, but I find I miss writing Peter. Peter is interesting, and JKR so underused him. Or didn't use him well enough, I guess. He just had SO MUCH potential to be an interesting character... sigh. All is good here, really. The boys had their yearly physicals the other day. They're both healthy (yay!) although Trevor has an ear infection. But what really shocked the doctor was that Toby grew over 4 inches this year, which is apparently a LOT for his age. He jumped from the 25th percentile for height and weight to the 50th. This is what happens when you start eating, hmmm? Trev's still in the 25th for both, but he always has been. Trev's a peanut, and he's such a CUTE peanut. ( See? )We did a major wrapping effort tonight, and got most of our stuff wrapped. I still have a little shopping to do, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't get done. And I have cooking! My MIL consented to having dinner here, so we're having homemade manicotti for Christmas. (I'm making the crepes and the sauce and the works.) Plus chicken parm. My BIL is bringing salad and my SIL is bringing rolls, and then we're having a dark choclate peppermint tart and Christmas cookies for dessert. Add in appetizers (shrimp, some spiral thingies I picked up at the grocery store, and spinach dip in a bread bowl), and Christmas dinner will be tasty indeed! Hope you all have a wonderful, fantastic Christmas. I'm sure I'll be on between now and then (my big Christmas gift (and anniversary and V-day) was a new laptop from my hubby), but you may not be. If you're not, have a fantastic holiday! Current Mood: drunk |

Three Ficlets
So, ages ago, I put up a request for prompts. These were three that sparked me really well. Two are BSG, one is HP. I know- I wrote HP fic! All are PG to PG-13, but mind the warnings on the second one. These are all time stamp fics. Enjoy! Title: Our Last Night Alive Summary/Prompt: safenthecity wanted The Touch of Your Grace, the night before the mutiny ( Our Last Night Alive )Title: Battles Still Unfought Summary: geekbynight asked for one month after the end of The Space Between Us, focusing on Gaeta and Hoshi. Heed the warnings for the original story- PTSD for several people based on what happened in that fic. (Also, it might be more like 2 or 3 months.) ( Battles Still Unfought )Title: A Tale of Two Letters Prompt: For gehayi, who asked for ten years after Let the Water Hold You Down. This isn't quite ten years, but this is the bunny that bit! ( A Tale of Two Letters ) Current Mood: accomplished |

Eeek! It's December 21. I think I'm almost done with my yuletide story. I have to be, right? :) I'm a little bummed, because I actually did want to take it slash like my recipient requested, and it is stubbornly not going there. It COULD, mind you. It's just a.) I'm running out of time, and b.) it would take a long time to do it right. The source material is set around the 40s-50s, and although I don't think my two characters would be at all homophobic, I just don't know that homosexual love would OCCUR to them for a long time. (The author of my source material would disagree, incidentally, striking down my theory that it's generally religious people that are homophobic as she's a big-time atheist, but that's not a deal killer.) It would take these two guys a while to get that they're in love, and then what the hell to do about it. Oh well. My title cracks me up, though :) Oh well. Must hit the post office and the grocery store, and then I after I put the kids to bed I can finish and post. I want to be posting by 4, in case I have trouble with the server. Nothing like last minute. UGH. (On the bright side, I had a lot longer than I thought on my BSG secret santa, so I can have LOTS of fun with that. Anyone want to beta? I promise the pairing will not offend anyone on my f-list.) Right. Real life, and then yuletide. And then booze or chocolate :) Current Mood: nervous |

Anyone else watching "The Sing-Off"? I'm a total sucker for a capella, and we've been fans of the Tufts Beelzebubs for years. (They're my favorites, followed by Nota, although I didn't care for their Jackson 5 medley. Although that might be because I'm not crazy about Jackson 5.) Fun show, though. Go 'Bubs! (The 1999 groups' version of Pink Floyd's "The Trial" is AMAZING.) Being a mother is totally random. Things I did today: 1.) Bought an angler fish, a squid, a puzzle, and a block table. 2.) Cleared a light saber and two whales off the couch. 3.) Constantly opened the doors on Trevor's car and wiped his nose over and over. 4.) Watched Ice Age 3, Dawn of the Dinosaurs. 5.) Told Toby to stop demonstrating how the Avatar hammerheads breed in the middle of McDonald's. (I'm serious. He and Trevor each got one, and Toby decided one was a male and one was a female, and that this was how they breed. Damn nature shows. The old couple sitting behind him was laughing so hard that the guy literally had to wipe a tear away.) And that doesn't count all the other stuff that was less random, liking cooking dinner or not being able to get either kid down for a nap or taking Toby to preschool or anything like that. Yeah. Motherhood is just weird some days. On the total upside, last night Toby ate an egg roll, chicken kung pao (homemade) and mandarin oranges. If you had told me a year ago that the kid who only ate baby oatmeal and yogurt was going to eat an EGG ROLL, I never would have believed you. Damn, we've come a long way. Must get writing. I've got a review of 2012, my yuletide fic, some meme ficlets, and my gaeta_squee secret santa fic. Busy busy busy. Current Mood: amused |
